Survey for Southeast Asian American Women Leaders

Dear Friends:

Hello, my name is Jennet Sambour and I currently serve in the role of
Women's Leadership Advocate of the Southeast Asian American Women's
Leadership Initiative at the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center
(SEARAC). The Initiative was started in 2004 to help build the capacity
of women to become leaders and advocates of change in their communities.

Based on preliminary conversations with Southeast Asian American women
leaders all over the U.S., we have identified a need to survey Southeast
Asian American women about their leadership experiences. The purpose of
the survey is get an accurate picture of what, if any, leadership
barriers exist for Southeast Asian American women in their community.
At the end of the survey, we will be compiling a report on the
findings. The information from the survey will help inform SEARAC and
other community-based organizations when planning programs or proposing
funding concepts. The survey and its finding are an integral piece of
the Southeast Asian American Women's Leadership Initiative and SEARAC's
commitment and investment in empowering all Southeast Asian refugee
communities and families.

I hope that you will take the time to fill out SEARAC's National Women's

CAPA SUPPORTS GAWAD KALINGA IN THE PHILIPPINES

  Last year, CAPA through the kindness of  our past president, Katherine Lee, was able to donate one unit to the  Gawad Kalinga project in the Philippines. It was recently reported that the said unit, together with 25 others were formally turned-over to the recipients. CAPA will now be part of the other individuals, organizations and corporations from Michigan who sponsored the MICHIGAN USA GAWAD KALINGA VILLAGE in Taysan, Legaspi City. Completion of the minimum number of units to built a Gawad Kalinga Village was initiated by the National Federation of Filipino American Associations - Michigan Chapter. Willie Dechavez, State Chairperson of NaFFAA Michigan would like to thank everyone who supported said project and that includes CAPA.

   Gawad Kalinga translated in English means to "give care", and it is an alternative solution to the blatant problem of poverty not just in the Philippines but in the world.

GK's vision for the Philippines is a slum-free, squatter-free nation through a simple strategy of providing land for the landless, homes for the homeless, food for the hungry and as a result providing dignity and peace for every Filipino.GK is more than about building houses for the poorest of the poor. Providing a decent home is just the beginning of the transformation of the people and the community.

OCA Summer Internship Program

ORGANIZATION OF CHINESE AMERICANS (OCA)

OCA Seeks Applicants for Summer Internship Program

Washington, DC – OCA, a national Asian Pacific American organization
dedicated to ensuring social justice for APAs, is seeking motivated and
qualified students for its highly successful summer internship program.
The internship will last approximately ten weeks and a stipend will
be provided.

Program Details: Summer interns will be placed at a
federal agency, non-profit, or congressional office that matches their
interest and work full-time. Interns can also be placed at the OCA
National Center and work first hand with one of the largest APA
organizations in the country.  In addition to their placement, summer
interns will be highly engaged in many OCA activities and be involved
with grassroots organizing.

The OCA Summer Internship Program engages interns with numerous activities
to bring to life all that Washington, DC has to offer.  The summer brown bag
series will inform and engage interns on important issues int he APA and civil
rights community.  In the past, we've met with Congressional Representatives,
APA staffers, and members of the APA Congressional Caucus to inspire interns. 
We will also be continuing on the success of a collaborative effort on
toolkits that interns will research and determine best practices on
important APA college issues, such as hate crimes and bias, coalition,
and Asian American Studies.

In addition to your time in Washington, DC, OCA will bring the interns to our
annual national convention, the largest APA conference in the country, held in
Sacramento, CA on June 28 – July 1, 2007.  The convention will feature speakers,
entertainment and engage the entire community on pertinent issues.  Applicants are
strongly encouraged to make sure they are able to attend this signature
event.

selecting the 2007 OCA Summer Internship class by April and a firm
commitment is required at the time.  Interns will be responsible for

Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics

Celebrating 10 years of developing emerging leaders!

Sponsored by Anheuser Busch Companies, Leadership in Action (LIA) is an eight-week
summer internship program designed to develop emerging young leaders by
providing college students with practical leadership skills and the
opportunity to work hands-on in the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific
Islander) community in Southern California.

Approaching its 10th year, the program takes learning beyond the classroom,
and places the student interns in a range of AAPI community based organizations
in order to gain real-life experience working at nonprofits. The intern's weekly
schedule is comprised of 4 days at their assigned community based
organization (CBO) and 1 day at LEAP.

At the CBO, the intern works with their assigned supervisor on a meaningful project.
At LEAP, the intern's day is devoted to leadership development training, issue
discussions, CBO site visits and a community impact project. Nationally
recognized trainers deliver workshops in critical skill areas. Issue
discussions are on local or timely topics of interest and are
facilitated by local community leaders/activists and LEAP trainers.

The community impact project will give the students interns an opportunity
to flex their leadership skills in a safe setting, as well as allow
them to contribute a service that has lasting impact on to the Asian
American and Pacific Islander communities.

To date, the LIA program has graduated 65 interns, representing 32 colleges
and universities from across the country and 2 interns from Korea.
The interns have served in 21 community-based organizations in the Southern
California area. The 2007 program will be held in Los Angeles from June 18
- August 17, 2007.

Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA)
DEVELOPMENT / ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR

The Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA) is seeking a full
time *Development / Administrative Director* who will be responsible
for building and managing all aspects of KIWA's fundraising programs,
including individual and foundation giving, as well as for managing the
organization's administrative functions. The Development Director shares the
Executive Director'sresponsibility for achieving all annual
and long-term fundraising goalsfor an organizational budget of
approximately $600,000.

KIWA is a non-profit, community based workers'
rights organization whose mission is to organize and empower low-wage
immigrant workers in Koreatown and the greater Los Angeles area. Minimum 2 year
commitment required.

*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

Development (75%):

� Lead development and implementation of  annual fundraising planand budget,
including detailed plans for achievement of goals  for foundation, individual,
and corporate giving

� Make annual revenue projections and update regularly over the
course of the fiscal year

� Write funding Proposals and Reports to foundations

� Organize grassroots funding events such as house parties and
annual fundraising dinner

� Maintenance of accurate and easily accessible information on
donors and development activities

� Establish and maintain system for regularly projecting short- and
long-term income and cash flow

*Administration (25%):*

� Process payroll, checks, reimbursements

� Book-keeping on Quickbooks

� Responsible for tax documents, insurance

� Maintain office supplies and equipment

*JOB **REQUIREMENTS*

� Minimum 2 years experience and success in nonprofit fundraising

� Proficiency with computer programs: Access, Excel, Fundraiser,

� Good written and oral communication
skills in English

� Strong planning and time management skills

� Ability to work independently as well as in teams

� Willingness and ability to work some  evenings, weekends and
to travel  occasionally

Taiwanese American Citizen League Summer Internship Program

Spend your summer as an intern with a premier Internship Program.

The Taiwanese American Citizen League (TACL) Summer Internship Program,
established in 1992, was formed to infuse the Taiwanese American
community with a greater understanding of the political system through
placement of college level students at offices of local, state, and
national public officials. This allows Taiwanese Americans to be better
recognized as a developed community with a voice. Our primary mission
for TACL is to promote Taiwanese culture, heritage and identity as well
as involvement in American society.

Interns experience first hand how the political system works by
observing and participating in the formation of policies, both domestic
and foreign. In addition to working in their offices, interns visit top
legislators in an intense Sacramento lobbying trip, attend community
events, participate in leadership development workshops, and various
other activities.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION: 
Asian Business Association of Los Angeles, Inc. (ABA) is a non-profit organization that has been proactively assisting Asian Pacific American businesses to gain access to economic opportunities and advancement since 1976.  ABA represent the views of the ever-increasing Asian Pacific American business owners to local, state and federal government officials in order to promote and improve the business climate.  We partner with major corporations in Southern California including:  Toyota, Edison, Union Bank, Honda, Staples Center, Sempra, Northrop Grumman, Citibank, Boeing and many more. 

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
• To assist in all aspects of event planning and implementation (Golf tournaments, Awards banquet, mixers, education seminar, training programs, etc.)
• To provide administrative support related to events; producing fliers/invitations, inviting guests, reserving venues and its amenities, greeting and guests registration, recording all transactions 
• To develop concepts when necessary, design promotional materials and direct logistical planning
• To attend events to oversee activities and ensure details are handled as arranged
• To negotiate and contract with vendors for a variety of services related to special events planning
• To monitor services to ensure contract terms are satisfied

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:
• Minimum of AA degree; Bachelor’s degree in hospitality related field preferred
• Minimum of 2 years experience in event planning or related field
• Ability to work independently and prioritize workload and meet deadlines despite interruptions and competing deadlines
• Effective interpersonal, oral and communication skills to interact with a variety of diverse personalities
• Good skills in establishing and maintaining accurate, neatly organized records and files
• Proven ability to compose documents and communicate orally in correct English
• Proficiency working with: Microsoft Office, Data Base Software, Internet, and e-mail. 
• Basic graphic design is a plus
• Show sensitivity and interest to multicultural issues 
• Strong teamwork skills; good in coordinating and delegating the workflow to others. 
• Ability to speak at least one Asian language is preferred
